At around
3:30pm on Friday afternoon, we all piled into the Ford Flex and headed towards
Toronto Pearson Airport. On the way, I
gave Hildy a little mock interview about her predictions of our upcoming trip. Although she admitted that she didn’t know
what to expect, she stated that she was worried that the ship would be too
“wobbly”.
When we
arrived at the airport, we breezed through our check in and soon it was time to
say goodbye to mom and dad. Mom got a
little teary during the goodbyes, but I think this was due to the fact that she
knew we were going to have a wonderful adventure together and she was happy for
us.
For a couple
hours, we settled behind a large, water sculpture to wait for our 7:45pm
flight. Hildy supplied us all with pretzels, nuts and sliced apples from her
carry-on. A nice man was beside us and
we chatted with him during our wait. He
had been working in Zambia and had many interesting stories and pictures to
show about his time there.
When it was
finally time for the flight, we boarded the plane but could not all sit
together. Jessie and Hildy sat a few
rows in front of me, and I was joined by a woman named Jill. Although I would have preferred to sit with
my travel companions, I enjoyed talking with Jill and getting to know about her
past as a policy writer within both the public and private sectors.
During the
flight, I took a Gravol to try to ensure a solid night’s sleep. This had the opposite effect and I soon found
myself in the bathroom getting sick. Luckily
Jill offered me one of her prescription pills and it didn’t take too long
before I was able to get a bit of rest.
