Sea Day: Tuesday April 30, 2013

Today as we woke up early, we saw the Volcano of Stromboli as we sailed along the coastline.  It houses a population of 600 people and is still an active volcano.  It blew off steam just before we passed it, so we got to see the immense smoke coming out of the opening.  This was a very interesting way to begin the day.
Following the volcano, we went to the dining room for a seated breakfast.  Hildy finally had the Eggs Benedict she had been longing for, but found that the portion sizes were too large.

We decided to see a movie after breakfast and Life of Pi was showing in the theater on-board.  Apart from being a bit cold, the movie was great and Hildy really enjoyed the storyline.  Afterwards, we had lunch and went to a port talk on Greece and Turkey.

Jessie was suffering from a headache, so she went back to the cabin for a nap while Hildy and I walked laps around the promenade.  It was a bit cold, however when we started walking at a brisk pace, it was quite enjoyable.

Tonight was formal night and we decided to get dressed up.  Oma K wasn’t too sure about this and claims that she hasn’t worn a dress “since Amy’s wedding”.  After a bit of coaxing, she wore a beautiful black dress with pearl accents.  I did her makeup and she looked fantastic!  We all went for dinner in the large dining room and thoroughly enjoyed a decadent meal.

After dinner we went to see the on-board show ‘It Takes 2”—a tribute to duets throughout the 50s-70s. We all enjoyed the show and were able to sing along to many of the songs.

The evening ended as we enjoyed the music of a violinist and piano player in the Explorer’s Lounge.  This was a great way to finish off the day on a high note.
